When Chelsey McBride stopped for gas at her local DK station in Merkel, Texas, she wasn’t expecting anything more than a routine fill-up. “I was just having a normal day filling up with gas and saw the sign for the sweepstakes,” she said. “I thought, ‘Why not?’ and filled out the information.”
That simple decision turned into the experience of a lifetime.

Chelsey, who regularly fuels at the Allsup’s DK along I-20 in Merkel, had played DK promotions before, including the Race2Win game, so when she saw this year’s Kick for the Keys soccer-themed promotion, she decided to give it another shot. “I still play the soccer game,” she laughed. “It’s quick and easy, and it gives me something to do.”
What she didn’t expect was to receive a notification telling her she had won two tickets to attend a match. “My first thought was honestly that it was a scam,” Chelsey admitted. “Then I saw the email and remembered, ‘Wait a minute… I did sign up for this!’ I checked the DK website and read the official rules, and everything matched. Melissa responded quickly to my email, which reassured me. I felt this overwhelming mix of excitement and anxiety. I couldn’t believe I had actually won.”
Her husband needed convincing too. “I told my husband first. He also thought it was a scam until I showed him proof.” There was never any question about who would join her for the trip. “He’s my right-hand man and my go-to for everything. I wouldn’t want to have this experience with anyone else.”
For Chelsey, who had never attended a professional soccer match before, the entire trip exceeded every expectation. “Getting to see the excitement and commitment of fans from all over the world was incredible,” she said. “The chants for their teams were beautiful, and the energy was amazing. From walking through the doors to sitting in our suite, it felt like a musical festival, never boring.”
Even before kickoff, the excitement was everywhere. “The night before we ate dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, and the whole restaurant broke out into Argentina’s song. Words can’t describe the excitement and vibe in the air.” Inside the stadium, the atmosphere only got better. “The stands were packed, flags were waving everywhere, and seeing everyone’s reactions to the first and last goals was magical.”
Although Chelsey didn’t win one of the promotion’s instant-win fuel gift cards, she says the grand prize experience was more than enough, and she’s still playing.
