For more than a century, the El Dorado refinery has been part of the heartbeat of Southern Arkansas. It began in the 1920s as Lion Oil—a homegrown operation built during the South Arkansas oil boom—and quickly became a source of pride for the region. Generations of families have worked there, watched it grow, and seen it evolve into the modern Delek refinery it is today. Through every transition, one thing has stayed the same: its commitment to the people and communities that surround it.
That kind of history is more than a story. For today’s fuel distributors and independent retailers, a refinery with deep local roots means more dependable supply, quicker access to product, and a partner that understands what it means to serve a community. As one of the region’s largest employers, Delek continues to invest in South Arkansas, support local families, and strengthen the economy that station owners depend on.

“What’s stood out most about partnering with DK/Alon is the relationship and professionalism of the entire Delek team. Their responsiveness is better than the industry average: calls get answered, emails get returned quickly, and they follow through. We don’t deal with broken promises, things get done. The DK brand adds real value to our company as a wholesale fuel provider, and having the refinery right here is one of the biggest advantages. On top of that, their offers are competitive, and they truly work with you as a partner to help make things happen.”
Elliot Jacobs

“Our students have loved the game and the opportunity to compete to win the gas cards. Each night, we have kids come up to us saying they hope they get their name drawn to play in the competition. We can not thank you guys enough for providing these gas card giveaways for our students and athletes.”
Tysha Adkins
2025 Race2Win Sweepstakes Grand Prize Winner
“I just wanted to try one of these sweepstakes y’all always have going on, and it was so fun. You drive through, race, stop and get gas in the game where I usually fill up. I really liked it. When I found out I won, I had to re-read it again and again. Fuel for a year is going to make a big difference in our lives. A huge difference. Now we can even go traveling somewhere. This really will change things for me and my baby.”
Danny Kendrick
CEO of Kendrick Oil Company
“The beginning of our partnership goes all the way back to the year 2000. Our growth with DK over the years has been significant and I think that can be attributed to DK's willingness to compete, flexibility and the DK image is just excellent. Consistency is a really a big factor.
The support from the branded team has been exemplary. They really take a hands-on approach to site development, grand openings, willingness to be competitive when we need… they have really helped us grow our footprint over the years.
The feedback from all of our DK dealers has been overwhelmingly positive. They really like the site-specific support DK provides and being branded with DK has allowed them to really compete with other local retailers. ”

Delek’s El Dorado Refinery—formerly known as Lion Oil—has been a cornerstone of Southern Arkansas energy production since 1922. Acquired by Delek in 2011, the refinery processes roughly 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day, much of it sourced from nearby regions. As one of the area’s largest employers with more than 500 team members, the refinery supplies gasoline, diesel and other oil-based products across Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, and Northern Louisiana while prioritizing environmental stewardship, including advanced water-reuse initiatives.
Delek US Holdings, Inc. acquired the El Dorado Refinery from Lion Oil Company in 2011, making it a key part of Delek’s refining operations across the southern United States. Originally built in 1922, the facility contributes to Delek’s system-wide capacity of more than 300,000 barrels per day.
Refining in El Dorado dates back to 1922, when a small local refinery was transformed into the Lion Oil Company amid Southern Arkansas’s oil boom. Colonel Thomas H. Barton, an early oil pioneer in the region, helped grow Lion Oil, expanding its production and market reach throughout the South and Midwest.
Over the decades Lion Oil became an important regional energy employer and enterprise. In the mid-1980s, local investors acquired and revitalized the struggling refinery, restoring the Lion Oil name.
In 2011, Delek US Holdings, Inc. acquired full ownership of Lion Oil and its El Dorado Refinery, integrating it into Delek’s southern U.S. refining network and continuing its long history of fuel supply in the region.
Branded fuel meets regulatory standards and follows additional brand-level quality and additive guidelines, backed by marketing, consumer recognition, and loyalty programs that help attract and retain customers. Unbranded fuel meets regulatory requirements but lacks brand marketing and consumer engagement tools, which can limit long-term growth opportunities.
Pricing reflects added value: reliable supply, marketing programs, cleaner additive packages, and brand promotions that drive traffic. Most retailers find these advantages outweigh the small per-gallon cost difference.
Regular, mid-grade, and premium gasoline, plus ultra-low sulfur diesel designed for Southern and Mid-South performance. (For East Texas-specific products, visit the East Texas page here.)
Brand recognition builds consumer confidence. DK adds canopy imaging, promotions, loyalty tools, digital ads, and local SEO support—making stations more discoverable and more competitive.
